During the first year of your period you may experience irregular, heavier, or skipped periods. This is normal. Many women experience irregular periods during adulthood, such as after child birth or change or hormone or birth control. If you have a sudden change in the regularity after a year of normal cycles consult your physician.

Heavy bleeding is generally not a medical emergency. Many women experience heavy bleeding during certain cycles and have days during their period that have a heavier flow. If you notice any heavier bleeding than normal consult your doctor for a check-up.
