What causes cramps?

The actual cramps are thought to be caused by prostaglandins, which are tissues in the lining of the caused that contract during the shedding of the lining in the uterus during the menstrual period.

What are cramps?

Not all women suffer the inconvenience of cramps, but many do. The cramps are caused by the contractions of the uterus during the menstrual cycle while the period blood is being drained out of the body.
